Combat systems

Combat in Fallout Anomaly is tactical, lethal, and realistic. You cannot rely on high-HP pools or bullet-sponge mechanics. Survival depends on your equipment, your character's skills, and your tactical positioning.

S7 Skills - Character Progression

Character growth is managed via S7 Skills. This system decouples perks from SPECIAL stats and links them directly to your active skill levels.

Key Progression Features
  • Tag Skills: Choose starting specializations for significant early-game bonuses.
  • Backgrounds: Select your pre-Anomaly history to define your starting stats and gear.
  • Skill Perks: Powerful abilities unlock naturally as you level up your skills through use.

True Damage - Realistic Lethality

Anomaly utilizes True Damage to ensure that gunfights feel consistent and dangerous. Damage is determined by caliber and projectile type, not by magical weapon levels.

The Caliber System

In this system, all NPCs (including the player) have a baseline 90% damage reduction. Weapon damage is then added back in based on the caliber's real-world lethality.

  • Consistency: Every weapon using .38 rounds will deal similar, realistic damage.
  • Caliber Matters: A .50 Caliber round is devastating, regardless of which rifle fires it.

Smart Tuning

  • Caliber Scaling: Handguns and rifles are balanced based on their barrel length and caliber.
  • Sniper Buffs: Dedicated sniper rifles receive significant boosts to range (+300%) and accuracy to reward long-range playstyles.
  • Armor Plates: High-end armor uses physical plates that can be shattered and replaced.

Munitions & SCOURGE

To provide variety and unpredictability, we include expanded ammunition and randomized enemy scaling.

  • Munitions: Adds dozens of new, lore-friendly ammo types like 9mm, .303, and specialized energy cells.
  • SCOURGE: Randomizes enemy health and stats within logical ranges. You never know if that Deathclaw has 500 HP or if it's an apex predator with 900+ HP.
Combat Essentials
  • Use Cover: Trading fire in the open is a death sentence.
  • Trigger Discipline: Ammo is heavy and expensive. Make every shot count.
  • Weak Point Targeting: Headshots and unarmored limbs are the fastest way to end a fight.
  • Tactical Retreat: If you are bleeding and out of stamina, leave. Living to fight another day is the only victory that matters.
