Tips & strategies

Survival in the Anomaly isn't just about fast reflexes—it's about preparation, knowledge, and patience. Here are the essential strategies to help you navigate the wasteland.

Survival Essentials

The basics of staying alive in a world that wants you dead.

View Survival Guidelines
Core Guidelines
  • Medical Prep: Always carry bandages, painkillers, and stimpaks. Never leave safety without at least two of each.
  • Sleep Management: Exhaustion lethally lowers your carry weight and combat effectiveness. Identify safe houses early and plan your routes between them.
  • Logistics: Use the APC travel system and subway networks for safer, faster movement across the Commonwealth.

Combat Tactics

Fights in Anomaly are won before the first shot is fired.

  • Pre-Medication: Use TXA + Ibuprofen before you enter a building or expect combat. This prevents critical bleeding and maintains your aim.
  • Cover & Concealment: NPCs will flank and use grenades. If you aren't behind a solid wall, you are a target.
  • Ammunition Logic: Only carry what you need. Ammo is heavy; bringing too much will leave you with no room for medical supplies.

Resource & Gear Management

Your equipment is your lifeline. Treat it with respect.

Scavenging

  • Junk is Life: Every piece of scrap can be turned into essential materials for crafting and repairs.
  • Water: Fill empty bottles at pumps or clean water sources. Dehydration kills faster than hunger.

Maintenance

  • Armor Plates: Regularly check your ballistic plates. A shattered plate offers zero protection against the next round.
  • Weapon Wear: Keep your firearms in top condition. Jamming during a firefight is usually fatal.

The Golden Rules of Radiation

How to survive the invisible killer
  1. Avoid Hotspots: If your Geiger counter starts clicking rapidly, back away. Do not "push through" without high-grade protection.
  2. Storm Protocol: When a radiation storm hits, find shelter or equip a gas mask immediately.
  3. Meds First: Treat radiation poisoning as soon as you are in a safe spot. Stacking debuffs will cripple your stats and eventually kill you.

For New Survivors
  • Stay Local: Don't rush into the city. Sanctuary and the surrounding forests provide enough resources to build a solid foundation.
  • Build Safe Houses: Turn available settlements into supply depots with clean water and a bed.
  • Check the MCM: Almost every system can be tuned to your personal preference via the Mod Configuration Menu.
